Proudly presenting my most recent article, “Dancing with health issues, sorrow and politics: Zeybek oyunu and zeybekiko”, published at the special issue of the Fanoos Magazine, dedicated to folklore and folk  dances.

In the article I explore how much a folk dance is built around difficult emotions and difficult health situations, that are not just acceptable but part of the dance tradition. And they could not be excluded from the dance, because this same dance is explicitly political, contrary to the usual tendency to depoliticise dances in westernised settings.

Happy to receive feedback, as this is part of my research concerning dances of the Eastern Mediterranean.
