One more difficult-to-write issue. I think that we need to reflect how and whether we can continue with our art while a genocide is ongoing. It is seven months now that Palestinian people are killed and maimed and starved.

What can we do to help, as artists who serve the arts of the affected people and region?

Dear subscribers, as I am preparing the Dance Vignettes for April, I am reflecting how we are going to continue like this, with a genocide unfolding while we are not doing enough to stop it.

I had sent you the March 2024 Dance Vignettes on time and then I was feeling that even announcing it is too much. I am an introvert but the last seven months made even more to look inwards and to communicate in private only with people that understand the situation. There are many things I do in the background and my newsletter is one of them, making my effort to communicate my ideas seem not completely in vain.

We live in a situation that we witness how cultural appropriation takes place and no-one in the dance world speaks about it. How are you coping?

If you read my Dance Vignettes, you will see that I write a lot about this because in the dance world this is something we must speak up about here and now.

February 2024 Dance Vignettes are out!

Dear subscribers, the February 2024 Dance Vignettes had been sent on time (relatively 😊 ) to your inboxes. But I could not find the stamina to write the announcement,  can you imagine? The more the genocide in Palestine continues, the more I have a difficulty to do anything that might seem celebratory or look like mere socialising. How are you coping?

In the February Dance Vignettes newsletter, we use music from both playlists to grant respect to ourselves. We also discuss the principle of no harm and how this applies to our dance and our involvement with cultures that are not the cultures of our own communities.

I repeat that we need to stay strong anyhow and stop the violence.

December 2023 has been out for some time now!

Dear subscribers, the December 2023 Dance Vignettes have been sent on January 1^st 2024 to your inboxes. I had a really difficult time to focus, even for this small announcement, although I am content to say that I will continue sending my newsletter as long as I can. I am very disheartened with the fact that the genocide continues and that the international community has not taken all the necessary steps to stop the massacre, that now takes the additional form of imposed starvation of the Palestinians. I wrote in my December Vignettes about the ugliness of cultural appropriation and the violence it entails and I believe we do not do enough for the Palestinian people.

This newsletter includes a new playlist, after I was prompted by Alia Thabit to share music for more inward-focusing, reflective movement and dance practice.

As I am preparing my January Dance Vignettes, I confirm that we need to stay strong anyhow and stop the violence.
